Dear Fellow Salesians
An Open Letter of Appeal to Don Bosco alumni, pupils and friends of Father Deane
It might have already come to your attention that Father P Deane (St Louis School Prefect of Studies 1964 1982; Principal 1982 1986) retired to Ireland in 1997. Since1986, he has been suffering from Parkinson's Disease. He is staying in a nursing home in Dublin, Ireland.
Father Deane devoted most of his life to St Louis School and most of you would personally know him or have heard about him. After his retirement, he has been well looked after by the Salesian Society.
"This school tries to operate according to the spirit of St John Bosco, a true family spirit. This spirit of familiarity and informality between Staff and students is one of the characteristics of our school. I am sure that this spirit will continue to develop and the school will become one happy home."
Rev. J. Foster, Principal Editorial, St Louis School Magazine 84
Over the years, during and after our studies at St Louis School, many of us have come to know Father Deane as part of our families, and when a member of your family is suffering from Parkinson's Disease and is residing in a country where he has few friends and little memories, you would want to make life as enjoyable as possible for him.
It is upon this belief that we have established a trust fund Father Deane Foundation Fund Trust - to finance the supplementary expenses required. The Fund is registered in Australia and all its accounts have been published online at http://www.deanetrust.org. You will also find other relevant background, reports from Old boys who have visited Father Deane and the complete and audited account of how the Fund has been used.
St Louis Spirit is
namely, a balance between freedom and discipline, a family atmosphere of harmonious relationships and genuineness in our attitude.
Rev S Lam, S.D.B., Supervisor Welcoming Speech; Speech Day 1996-7
With this letter we sincerely appeal to all of you, graduates from the 50's to the new millennium, to donate generously to this Fund, as we have been taught in the St Louis Spirit to treat our teachers as family and to share.
