There has been no significant deterioration in Father’s health over the past few months. He is still receiving care both from the nursing home and the private carers hired by the Trust on his behalf.  It has been a challenge to the Trust to secure and manage such carers in order to promote and maintain a high degree of reliability and work ethics similar to that exemplified by Helen.

In late March Father was found to have suffered a wound on his lower back caused by abrasion against a deflated air mattress (a special mattress for patients who cannot turn in bed) at night when the private carers were off duty. The wound was subsequently infected and Father was in a lot of discomfort. After replacing the mattress and continual medical treatment, Father’s wound has been healing steadily over the past 2 weeks.

Father continued to have difficulty in swallowing and it was not helped by the additional bed rest due to his wound.

By 16 April he was a lot better and was able to finish all his lunch.
