Summary of Theresa’s Report at a Trustee Directors’ Meeting

25/10/2005

Overall speaking, Father was in good health except that his Parkinsons’ symptoms have set in and worsened.  He frequently had difficulty swallowing and as a result he would choke and could hardly breathe. His conditions usually improved immediately after his medicine but because of this dangerous situation he must have someone to be with him and look after him most of the time. The significance of the carer in Father’s wellbeing could not be overstated.

We have acquired the assistance of another carer to give relief to Helen who has worked devotedly for years looking after Father. Although this might mean a slight increase in expenses, the overall benefit of giving Helen some long overdue rest so that she could look after Father better will be worthwhile.

I have been here nearly 1 week, Fr is not as good as when I saw him last. He was closing his eyes a lot.

.... He usually had problem in the morning, choking, not breathing properly. I noticed that he could not swallow after 2pm when we wanted to give him liquid. ...change the medication time from 3pm to 2.30pm.... Since the change, he can take his afternoon tea without any problem.

We also found a relief carer,..from S Africa. She ...dont know if she would stay long. She might want more hrs. We only need her in the afternoon on alternate week. Well, we worry about it when the time comes.....
