Dear Theresa,
We visited Fr Pat again on Wednesday 31st March and brought him to the China Sichuan restaurant in Stillorgan. He was very difficult – refusing to move, very slow getting in and out of the car, etc. impossible to communicate with and up to all the childish tricks of eating his napkin, trying to pull off the tablecloth and playing with knives, forks and chopsticks!!!! It was even difficult to get him to eat! His attention seemed to jump to something else every few minutes. He is worse than he was before we went to England but lets hope this is just a temporary setback rather than a permanent deterioration.
At the home we met Sister Bernadette, the boss, and she told us that Fr Pat had been booked into St Joseph's , The John of God's Home at Strankill that we went to see while you were here. She said that as Fr Pat had been on the waiting list since before Christmas, she expected that he would be moving there soon, very likely before your visit at the end of May.
Chris spoke to Eileen on the telephone and she said that she know Fr Pat was on the waiting list but had heard nothing about when he might be moved. Eileen said that, a few days before Christmas, she visited Fr Pat before going to Kerry and found that all his clothes and belongings were packed in black plastic bags. She was told that Fr Pat was to be moved to St Joseph's next day. She was shocked that they were going to move him like that without even notifying the family. Next day she was told that it was all a mistake and Fr Pat was not being moved. Apparently the room that was available in St Joseph's was a double room and Fr Pat is to get a single room.
I telephoned Johnny Foster today and he said that although the booking had been made in St Joseph's he didn't think the move would happen so soon but he would check ......... We said that Fr Pat is very much at home and feels very secure now in the place he is that he knows it and his own room – And that a move could be very traumatic for him.
Both Foster and Sister Bernadette telephoned us back to confirm that Fr Pat is now on top of the list for a vacancy at St Joseph's – and that is basically as soon as somebody dies! However Sr. Bernadette said that she expected that we would get plenty of notice – Whatever that means? She left a message on our answering machine, so we did not talk to her further.
Now that there would be a move to St. Joseph's before you come or while you are here I do not know what to do about booking a place for you – Perhaps I should look for a place somewhere between the two places?
We also have heard that the 5th floor of Our Lady's Manor has been sold by the sisters to a group of 5 doctors who intend to open a clinic there – So I guess that as soon as they are ready to start their project there will be pressure to clear all the occupants from that floor anyway. (But as Sister Bernadette said to Chris – Fr Deane is OK, has a definite place to go to!)
We checked Fr Pat's trousers – the light trousers (made in Fiji) are presumably the ones from Australia. They are sized:- Waist:102 cm. Leg:79 cm. I measured Fr Pat's waist and it seems to be about 100 cm.
We always asked nearly every time we went for information about the move but the sisters/nurses on the floor didn't seem to know what was happening (or didn't want to tell us!) Sr Bernadette never seemed to be available before yesterday.
We asked Sr Mulcahy to make the appointment with the cardiologist and she wrote it donw with the dates of your visit. There was no bill from the physiotherapist available so we do not know how often she has been or how much is due.
I think that's all the information to date ……
Happy Easter
From
Chris and Bosco
