Dear Theresa

Happy New Year and thank you for your card and flowers and expression of sympathy on the death of my brother. That was a shock to us all but his wife and children seem to be coping quite well with the loss.

We had an enjoyable holiday in Cyprus and spent a week or so in England on the way back visiting the family.  Back in Ireland this week, we visited Fr Pat on Thursday – He was in great form, looked very good and was smartly dressed.  He remained quite sensible for most of our visit and did quite a lot of smiling and joking. Also, of course, he ate an enormous Chinese meal – and spoke quite a bit of Cantonese to the waiters. He seems very content and relaxed and did not complain about anything (not even about people stealing his things!) According to Sister Mulcahy he has been very well ever since your visit and she thinks the massage has been very good for him.

He was having a massage on Thursday afternoon but Fr seemed eager to see us off before the lady arrived so we did not see her.  Sister said that she (the massage lady) was getting worried about her payment, so we left a cheque for her. Sister also said that the massage lady would be leaving Dublin soon but she would try to get another lady.

Since you were here we have been bringing one of the electric toothbrushes home each time we go to visit and recharging it here.  On Thursday we were surprised that the one he was using was still  not run down even after us being away for weeks. We then discovered that Father's grip and the pressure of his thumb on the switch is not strong enough to operate the brush – so he has not been using it! We tried to show him that he could press the switch against something but I don't think he was interested. We will try again the next time we go.

I sent thank you notes and cards to all those people that you mentioned before Christmas.

The weather here has been bad. Lots of strong winds and rain, and then some frost and snow – Its good to have warm clothes and a warm house.

Hope you are all keeping well there.

Love

From Chris and Bosco
