Dear Theresa
Sorry that we missed your telephone calls. We have been out quite a lot lately as we had guests staying with us up until a few days ago. We have managed to keep seeing Fr Pat at least once every week and we saw him again today.
I don't know if you noticed anything on the telephone but he has deteriorated quite a lot in the last 2/3 weeks. It is almost impossible to communicate with him. He will just smile and say "Hello, Bosco" or "Good to see you, Chris" and after that he may not say anything sensible or answer any question we ask. He is not imagining the strange stories about Hong Kong and St Louis that he did two years ago but he is quite confused in a different way. He just switches off frequently and is surprised that you are there a few minutes later. He is more stubborn – refuses to answer questions, will continue doing something stupid no matter what you say or do, and he stops while walking with you and refuses to move on for some time or persists in tottering as if his feet are stuck to the floor. (He will not step over your foot like he usually does.) Also he seems to get annoyed more often and more easily.
We have spoken to the sisters in the home about the changes in Fr Pat and they have also noticed and they said Pat's sister, Eileen also mentioned this. So it is not just us that noticed a change. One of the sisters thought that the Parkinson's Disease has now progressed to another stage …
That's all for the present…….Looking forward to hearing from you soon.
Love
Chris & Bosco
