Dear Theresa
We had a committee meeting last night and had discussed about Fr Deane. Joseph Ki was present and he showed us Fr Deane's photos. We could clearly see a difference between how he looked before and after going to the nursing home.
Most of our committee members know Fr Deane well and felt very sad about his situation.. We agreed that he should move out of Ireland. As you mentioned that Father was very worried about returning to Hong Kong, Canada and Australia are probably the choice. A lawyer among us felt it would be difficult for him to stay in Canada because he has no status here. What status does Fr Deane have in Australia? Can he stay in Australia? If he can, that is definitely a better place climate-wise.
I spoke to C.C.Lee a few months ago and he was saying that if Father decided to return to Hong Kong, he would take care of it financially. C.C. Lee is now in Hong Kong. I expect him to return to Canada in the next couple of months. We all felt that we should get more information before talking to C.C.Lee. What is the cost to stay in nursing home in Australia? Will the Salesian Order let him go to where he wants? If not, what else can one do to let him leave?
In the meantime, we plan to do something to lift his spirit. At the Annual Dinner next month, we will collect signatures and comments from all our members and send them over to Fr Deane. We will also have our second issue of the St Louis Alumni magazine ready and some tapes to send over as well. I guess Father has a tape recorder.
Once we get all the information, I will approach C.C.Lee and get the ball rolling.
Andrew
