Dear Fr Foster

Thank you very much for your letter from Hong Kong. It was good to know that you have a grand time in Hong Kong.

Anthony did ring me up last week on my return from China.  He has told me that your family is going to have a "private" celebration for your 40th Anniversary of priesthood in July.  So Anthony may come to join that celebration.  Anyway, I am sure it is going to be a meaningful occasion for you.

He also re-expressed your opinion on Fr Deane's condition and what would be best for him.  I can see the validity of your opinion that Fr Deane has improved under the care of the nursing staff and you in Ireland.

The Old Boys here are very keen to share the joy of both your and Fr Deane's 40th Anniversary.  It would be close to impossible for all of us to come to Ireland and we would like to invite both you and Fr Deane to Australia, say, in late July and early August so that we can extend this celebration. In case you worry about Fr Deane's health during his stay in Australia, we have arranged a Catholic nursing home for this purpose. Bernard Yim has once again volunteered to look after Fr Deane once he is here.

I know you have taken some time off to Hong Kong already.  I hope you will consider this invitation and hope to hear from you soon.  I understand Theresa Lee is coming to Ireland  in a few days' time and I shall send the invitation to Fr Deane via her.

God bless you

Yours sincerely

Ben
