Dear Theresa
Just had dinner with an ex-teacher in a local restaurant. I've shown your email to those who attended. Dr Andrew Shum (1967) said it seems best for Fr Deane to return to Hong Kong. I have the same idea, although I have never mentioned it. Andrew ask if I will go to Dublin with him to visit Fr Deane and further evaluate the situation. I said next March may not be a bad time. If Fr Deane has not settled by then, we will help to make a decision. We may have to find out a little more from some Old Boys in Hong Kong regarding such possibility and whether he can stay in St Louis. We will have also to get in touch with the Salesian authorities too. There are more than a few Old Boys who are in the medical profession here in Canada, Hong Kong and Australia, etc. who can help make this decision.
As to collectively write something about him, my concern is that whether he can still read the smaller prints. How about making a picture album with some older pictures?
Immediately, we can probably send him some of our Old Boys (Canadian) publications if you let know the mailing address so that he has something to read about us to keep busy with.
We will write something about Fr Deane in the coming publication that will be distributed during the Annual Ball (Nov 1 1997). Hope I get some photo from you thru Annie Chan to put in there as well.
Regards
Henry Tang
