At the request of Anthony Liu, SLOBA Hong Kong organised a dinner meeting on 21 February 2000 at Jade Garden Restaurant, Jardine House, Central, Hong Kong. The dinner meeting was attended by the following:

During the meeting Anthony Liu gave an account on the development and the formation of the Father Deane Foundation Fund Trust. This Trust was set up by St Louis Old Boys in Sydney to provide a mechanism for all St Louis Old Boys who would like to contribute toward the enhancement of Fr Deane's life as a gesture of gratitude and friendship. Anthony Liu also tabled the photographs of Fr Deane taken during the period from 1997 to 1999. During the meeting there was an anthusiastic discussion. A proposal was raised to transfer Fr Deane to some nursing home in Hong Kong so that more Old Boys could pay him visits. However there were many pros and cons to be considered and these were briefly discussed in the meeting. Anthony Liu also remarked that sometimes one could do harm even with the best of intentions.
The meeting concluded that for the time being effort should be made to improve the status quo of Fr Deane. Anthony Liu finally drew the attention of all present to the website http://www.deanetrust.org prepared by the Old Boys in Sydney. The website provides detailed information on the Trust, estimated financial requirements and updated information on Fr Deane's situation.
At the proposal of Winston Chu, an impromptu donation was made at the dinner meeting a sum of HK$54,000 was raised.
