Report from Theresa - 8 Oct 2006

I am happy to report that Fr is much better but not out of the woods yet. Yesterday was the first day that he could swallow. They were giving him only liquid with thickener. Yesterday they gave him yogurt and a nutrution food called fortified cream. And they got him out of bed sitting down for a few hours.

If he does not get a relapse, he should recover slowly.

Earlier Report from Theresa - 6 Oct 2006

Fr had been sick for the last few days. he had a chest infection, temperature and had difficulty swallowing.

His condition worsen yesterday. The Dr was called and gave him a stronger antibiotic, He is on paracetamol every 4 hrs for the last few days. Eileen and the Salesains were called in. The Provincial and Fr Coffey went to visit him and anointed him. I received a phone call from Eileen around midnight here and I had made a few phone calls over the night to check up on Fr. The main problem was his swallowing and he also had difficulty breathing. They gave him oxygen and suctioned him regularly to bring up the phlegm. They also gave him the nebuliser 3 times a day. Helen stayed till about 9pm and Eileen would stay with Fr overnight in the home.

At one stage his blood pressure had dropped and the heart rate was very low. I rang again about 6.30am and was told he seemed to have settled down a bit and was breathing normal. Fr Foster was there too when I called just now.

I hope he would pull through. Pls pray for him.
