Dear Theresa,
Today Winston Chu visited Father Pat and it was a very successful day. Father was in good form (after a few days when he was not so good with a kidney infection and on antibiotics) and was pleased with having Winston visiting. He was doing quite a lot of talking, smiling, eating well and playing his little jokes like refusing to get out the car and complaining about me pushing him around!!!
Winston was quite impressed with the home. He met Helen and thought she was a very nice person and was glad that we had somebody like her to give Pat personal attention frequently.
so the limousine, lunch and everything went very well. As Johnny Foster did not come until after lunch, we were able to have a quiet time with Fr Pat and we had a good discussion also. Winston has a great respect and love for Father Pat. He said he and the Hong Kong Old Boys would provide any money or support we needed that would help Fr Pat in anyway. There were also Old Boys in Canada who were prepared to help the Australian Old Boys look after Pat..... The St Louis Old Boys never cease to surprise me in their devotion to Father Pat! He certainly had something special!
Winston told me to go ahead with the computer as soon as possible. However, Robert Daly's (Ed. the driver whom Lawrence Wan hired) son will not be back from holiday until next Monday but he promised that he would put him in touch with me as soon as he is available.
Johnnie Foster arrived at 3:15 and I stayed with them for just 15 minutes. Winston told him about the funds the Australian Old Boys had provided for Pat and about the HK$50,000 they had in Hong Kong for him. Johnny said nothing about the Salesian's view that they did not like the idea of one of the priests getting special attention while I was there.
Helen did a great job of getting Pat ready for the special visitor today. he was freshly shaved, hair cut and smartly dressed. He looked really well - no wonder Winston Chu was impressed!
Hope you are keeping well and that your plan for the November trip are going smoothly.
Love from Chris and Bosco.
